Summer is officially here and nothing beats the heat then one of the many crisp and cool waterfalls near Waynesville, NC. The area surrounding East Fork Ranch has some of the best waterfalls and swimming holes the mountains offer. Guests also have access to the the East Fork of the Pigeon River on the property as well as a pond which we stock with fish. If your planning a trip to the mountains be sure to take some time to cool off in some fresh mountain water.

Here’s a short list of our favorite waterfalls near Waynesville and East Fork Ranch we recommend taking the time to explore. All of these are easy drives from East Fork Ranch and offer some great photo opportunities as well as being accessible.


Waterfalls On The Blue Ridge Parkway

Skinny Dip FallsGraveyard Fields: One of the most popular areas on the Blue Ridge Parkway offers two waterfalls and then many places further downstream to get in the water. It can be busy at times, but there’s plenty of room. Hiking to the Upper Falls area is highly recommended, but definitely not for everyone. The hike is 4 miles. The Lower Falls have easy access, along with a observation deck. From East Fork Ranch take 276 to the left. Get on the Blue Ridge Parkway heading south toward Great Smoky National Park. Graveyard Fields is just past Milepost 418

Skinny Dip Falls: Situated just a mile north of Graveyard Fields, this waterfall is just a short hike on the Mountain To Sea Trail. Features a great swimming hole and some beautiful waterfalls. There are also ways to hike up stream, where you’ll find multiple tide pools to wade in. From East Fork Ranch take 276 to the left. Get on the Blue Ridge Parkway heading south toward Great Smoky National Park. Skinny Dip Falls is at Milepost 417 (Look for the Mountain To Sea trail head)


Waterfalls On 276 In Transylvania County

High FallsTaking 276 from East Fork Ranch and going under the Blue Ridge Parkway takes you to Transylvania County, also known as The Land of Waterfalls. There are 250 waterfalls in the county, some of which are fairly easy to access from East Fork Ranch. The drive is on a scenic by-way and is beautiful. It takes you through the Pisgah National Forest which is full of hiking, as well as a few waterfalls.

Here we are highlighting two of the closest (and most popular) waterfalls to East Fork Ranch. You may opt to continue onto Brevard, where you can access the Dupont State Forest and features multiple waterfalls including-High Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Triple Falls. Sliding Rock: No trip to the mountains is complete without a trip to this natural water slide. The kids love it and so do the adults. It’s been featured on almost every travel website and if you do a simple search on YOUTUBE you’ll find hundreds of videos. It can get busy on the weekends, but it’s worth checking out. You have to pay a $1 to park which helps maintain the area and provides lifeguards during the busier months.

Looking Glass Falls: One of the largest in the area and right on the side of the road. This 60-foot waterfall is spectacular. You can enjoy it from the parking area or take the steps down for an up close look. Feeling daring bring your swim suit and take a swim. There are tons of places to get in the water.
